REVIEW: THE REBOUND (15) A TOYBOY ROMP FOR CATHERINE ZETA JONES

ABOVE: Catherine Zeta Jones plays a single mum who finds a toyboy in Manhattan in The Rebound
23rd July 2010

The only surprising aspect of this otherwise by-numbers rom-com is how lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones (left) looks playing a 40-year-old mother-of-two.

After finding her husband is cheating on her, suburban mum Catherine takes her two kids to Manhattan, where she finds a flat, and a job in TV. Aimless 25-year-old coffee shop worker Justin Bartha ends up as an unlikely babysitter.

In less time than it takes to coin a cliché, Catherine and toyboy Justin are in bed and enjoying a romance which boasts fewer surprises than a bag of Jelly Babies but is just as sickly sweet.

Zeta-Jones sails through the movie without making any waves, and Bartha tries hard but is strictly formulaic.

While it’s a well-made film, it’s also utterly forgettable.

VERDICT: 5/10
