FEES FURY AT LENDERS

ABOVE: People who pull out of the mortgage will most likely have to forfeit their fee
10th November 2009

By Brendan Abbott

Up to one in five mortgage lenders will hang on to your home loan booking fee, even if your application is rejected.

Non-refundable application fees are being charged by up to 19 lenders, says realpricecomparison.com.

It found that people who pull out of the mortgage will almost certainly have to forfeit their fee, even if it is no fault of their own.

Realpricecomparison.com’s Francis Ghiloni said: “If a customer is turned down for a mortgage or is forced to pull out, it will be an unpleasant surprise to find that not getting the mortgage you wanted is going to cost you a lot of money.”
