ENGLAND: FABIO CAPELLO'S FEARS FOR CHELSEA DUO FRANK LAMPARD AND JOHN TERRY

ABOVE: Capello fears the duo will burn-out
18th March 2010

By David Woods

ENGLAND boss Fabio Capello fears Chelsea duo Frank Lampard and John Terry could be bit by burn-out.

The Italian's concern about Terry has been well publicised, following the recent axing of the centre back as international skipper following revelations about his private life.

Starsport can reveal Capello is also anxious about Lampard's dip in form in the build-up to the World Cup. The mid- fielder is 32 on June 20, bang in the middle of England’s Group C qualifi ers in South Africa.

Capello was at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday to see the normally all-action star have little impact in the Blues’ defeat by Inter Milan in the Champions League.

The match was Lampard’s 46th of the season – six for his country and 40 for Chel- sea. He also played three of the four games on the Blues’ pre-season tour of America.

If England make it to the final on July 11, it will mean Lampard will have played just a week shy of a year since he turned out for Chelsea against Seattle Sounders last summer. Danger It is understood Capello fears the usually infl uential Lampard may be in danger of burn-out.

Normally a free-scoring midfielder, he has been on the scoresheet in only two of his last 11 matches.

Capello also has been keeping an eye on Terry, who is 30 in December.

The Chelsea captain, whose car was in collision  with a security guard when he was leaving Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, has played two more competi- tive games than Lampard – 42 for his club and six for England.

And he has struggled to produce anything like his best form since his private life hit the headlines.
